Bringing Heaven to Earth

Whenever you do God’s will, you bring Heaven to earth. How are you bringing Heaven to earth for those around you?

When someone dies, their unfinished projects usually die with them. But after Dave Feige from Wentworth, South Dakota passed away after a tragic farm accident, his friends gave him a helping hand to complete what he couldn’t complete himself.

Feige, 58, had over 1,000 acres that needed to be harvested, so his best friend, Roger Schrepel, gathered over 50 area farmers together with 25 combines, 50 trucks, and 15 grain trucks to do that very thing.

After I heard this touching story I thought, These farmers didn’t just bring in this man’s crops; they brought heaven to earth.

In Matthew 6:10, Jesus said that we should pray that God’s will be done, “on earth as it is in heaven.” Whenever we love, forgive, share, or encourage, we are fulfilling Matthew 6:10; we are bringing heaven to earth. Whenever we demonstrate patience, pray for miracles, exercise hope in tribulation, or practice faith in the face of impossibilities, we are bringing God’s will in heaven to the earth.

In his book The Glory of Heaven, Dr. John MacArthur writes, “Accepting the reality of spiritual things is not the same as believing in them.” When we believe in heaven’s kingdom principles and don’t just believe heaven will be a nice place to go when we die, we will bring heaven to earth.

I am so thankful for the many people who have crossed my path and have brought heaven to earth for me so it could grow in my heart. Some of them passed through my life in a moment; some stayed a while.

When I was 24 years old, a godly woman named Cheryl took me under her wing during a difficult time of my life and taught me how to press into Christ to meet my needs. She wrote me encouraging notes, listened to me cry, prayed with me, and constantly reminded me of Christ’s love. Cheryl’s patient care for me brought heaven to earth; it changed me for the better—and I have never been the same.

When I was 32, a Canadian woman I had never met edited my first attempts at writing. We communicated via e-mail, and when I doubted myself, she told me I could become an author. Through her gift of encouragement, she brought heaven to earth for me. I have been forever changed.

When I was 36, I met a wonderful lady named Maxine who showed me what it meant to demonstrate courageous faith in the face of cancer. Her exit from the soil of earth to the glory of heaven left me marveling at God. Her faith brought heaven to earth for me, and I will never be the same.

When I was 42, during a lonely season, a stranger in a grocery store checkout line stopped me to tell me that the Lord wanted me to know that He heard me and that I wasn’t alone. This woman’s gift of compassion brought heaven to earth for me and I was changed.

Whenever we do God’s will, we bring heaven to earth. How are you bringing heaven to earth for those around you?
