Bringing God Into the Ordinary
James 4: 7 & 10
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
How amazing it is that God will come near to us. The God of the Universe will come near to me! It is almost too good to be true, but it is true. God will lift us up where we are. Is there a catch? No catch. We do, however, have a part to play. We must submit and humble ourselves to God.
What does that look like, in everyday terms, to submit yourself to God? Submit your will to His will. Submit your way, to His way. My will is to push, control and manipulate things. God’s will is to love, release control to Him and trust that God will work all things together for good according to His glorious riches. (Romans 8:28) My way is to argue for my rights, God’s way is to die to my rights. My way is to win an argument, God’s way is to turn the other cheek. By submitting my will and my way, I am humbling myself. There is a promise attached to these verses- the promise is that “He will lift you up”. The God of the Universe, the Creator of ALL things, the Sovereign, Almighty God...He will lift you up!
As you go about your day today, make a conscious decision to submit your way, your will to your Heavenly Father and receive the full blessing He has for you.
Prayer: Father, I give You this day. I give You my life. Do with it what You will. God, I want to follow after you and receive Your blessings. Guide me throughout my day and show me the times that I am not submitting my will to You.
