Breathe on Me, Breath of God
Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: “I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness I will take you by the hand and keep you.” (Isaiah 42:5-6)
For asthmatics, or people with other breathing issues, any verse of the Bible that mentions breath jumps out at us. Breathing is pretty important when it comes to...well...not dying. I’ve had a few bad asthma attacks, wondering as I blacked out if I would wake up in His presence, finally free of being breathless.
Since you’re reading this, it’s apparent that I did not die. However, you don’t need to suffer with breathing issues to appreciate the importance of accepting the gift of life from God. Not just for taking breath on this earth, but more importantly accepting the breath of the Holy Spirit into our lives daily.
What does that look like? How do we get a fresh touch and filling from the Lord?
We ask. The Bible says you have not because you ask not.
We need to stop suffering and gasping for breath. We need to acknowledge the spiritual dryness in our lives, sit quietly, open the Word and begin to look for the face and character of God. Pray earnestly, asking the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh. His promises are true; he will meet you and when you feel him move...breathe in deeply. He will take you by the hand and keep you.
