Break That Yoke
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 ESV)
My friend Moira will often take her hands and lightly brush the person’s shoulders and back as she is praying with them to be set free from bondages and oppressions from their pasts. The Word speaks about ‘laying on of hands’, and I think that Moira’s simple little gestures do much for the faith of those who are being prayed for. It’s tangible and makes the person being prayed for not only agree, but also ‘feel’ the release from their old yokes.
A yoke is something that is put on a beast of burden in order to control and direct it through the field. Which is a good thing. However, too many of us women still walk around with the yoke of our old, sinful selves pulling us in the wrong direction and keeping us slaves. This is not a good thing.
Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)
We needn’t be laden with the heavy, constrictive yoke of our pasts. We need to brush them off and put on Jesus. His direction is easy and He carries our loads.
Father, we thank You that You want to set us free from our pasts. Help us to cut off the things that we have carried for too long and to take on Your Spirit of peace and joy. Holy
Spirit set us free by the washing of the blood of Jesus. In His name, Amen!
