Break Free of Your Past

Description

Jesus set us free, so take steps to truly break free. Release your past in your mind so that Jesus can release your heart and your soul.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1–2, TNIV

We know we were set free from eternal damnation when we accepted Jesus Christ. We also feel freedom as we live our lives, serving Him and feeling His pleasure in us, knowing He is guiding us and taking care of us. Freedom is a powerful thing. Anyone who has been a prisoner of some sort, even if being tied up for a game of cowboys and Indians, understands the unique feeling of relief when freed.
When Jesus set us free from the law of sin and death, He meant complete freedom. Not just from our sins, but also from our past:
  • Past actions that we’re ashamed of, with guilt that sometimes strangles us
  • Past relationships where we were hurt, where the pain still cuts and makes us bleed even today
  • Past lifestyles that present dark, dangerous temptations to our new lives

Jesus set us free, so take steps to truly break free. Release your past  in your mind so that Jesus can release your heart and your soul. Breaking free doesn’t mean you live your life perfectly from now on, that you’ll  never do anything you’re ashamed of, or that you’ll never feel hurt again.

But breaking free means your past is not a set of manacles chaining you and holding you down, or holding you back. Jesus wants you to be free.

FAITH STEP: What in your past is chaining you down? Breaking free isn’t usually a quick and easy thing, so pray for Jesus to help you give your past up to Him. Remember that He’s with you every step of the way. Pray for Him to help you with these early steps so that you can walk forward and not backward. Pray for the wisdom you need to break free.
