Break Free from Fear

Is it time to apply supernatural power to your ingrained thoughts and behaviors?

“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! (Luke 12:4-5 ESV)

Growing up as a victim of sexual abuse, I had a sensitive startle reflex which has followed me well into my adult years. It didn’t matter what setting I was in, my flesh wanted to jump at everything . . . slamming doors, breaking twigs, or shoulder taps from behind. Godly counseling helped immensely in working out some of my fears, but let’s face it, when it came to forty-year-old patterns, I was in need of a supernatural intervention!

Beth Moore did a teaching once on ‘If . . . Then’ and I think we can build on that idea that ‘If ______, then ______’. For me, I had to get it in my head that if I were ever attacked again, then God would restore me again as He had in the past.

So with this truth stated and acknowledged, now we need to apply supernatural power to our ingrained behaviors and thoughts. How? We apply the Truth of scripture and speak it out loud to kill our fears. We remember Who we serve and Who loves us. He is the only One we need to fear – our relationship with Him is eternal, and anything that man can do to us is only temporal. Since embracing these truths and actions into my life, I am thankful to say that my startle reflexes have eased up and I am walking in new freedoms in Christ. Hallelujah!

Father, thank You for setting us free through the blood of Your Son on the cross. Help us to take captive every fearful thought to the obedience of Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
