“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.” (Isaiah 12:5 ESV)
Scientists have discovered that one of the only things that activates, stimulates and uses the entire brain is music. Which I find rather interesting as I know my worship is often accompanied by songs of praise. Whether at home or at church, hymns and choruses just strike a chord within me, (pun intended).
Francis Chan said once, ‘What makes worship amazing is the object of our worship.’
Yes, He is amazing! And singing praise to the Lord blesses me . . . and Him! That being said, my singing voice may not exactly be a blessing to those around me. But thankfully God is tone deaf and only hears what my completely stimulated brain and pounding heart is saying to Him.
Some would say that we Christians are brainwashed and that we are following religion mindlessly, but I say, ‘Not so!’ True worshipers are very deliberate when we sacrifice our praise to the Lord. Every verse we sing is from the heart. We just don’t sing words, we sing words with deep, personal meaning . . . and now science shows that our minds are engaged!
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16 ESV)
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. (James 5:13 ESV)
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! (Psalm 100:1-2 ESV)
