Bossy Girl

Description

Are your prayers all they should be? Or if they were recorded, would you run for cover?

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:12-14, ESV)

Are your prayers all that they should be? Or if they were recorded, would you run for cover?

Lately, my prayers have been so bossy. I’m a bossy, bossy girl.

It’s like somehow I think that God needs a little bit of direction now and then. You know, it’s not like I think He can’t handle it, I’m just trying to be helpful. Kind of like the teacher’s helper who has her name posted on the whiteboard in the front of the classroom. The kid sees her name is written down, takes that authority...and runs with it.

“Lord, heal my husband.” (Now, this may seem like a fairly good prayer, but what if God isn’t finished working out something in my sweet man’s life? I don’t think He’s unaware that Don’s sick, yet I remind him every day that Don still needs help.)

Now, before you all write me and tell me that we should be claiming everything in His name, I am not talking about faith issues—I’m talking about heart issues. Often when I am saying those words, I am downright angry and to be honest, a bit mouthy. All I need to do is add a foot stomp or two and you can get the picture.

Jesus prayed to the Father for His will, not his own be done. I sometimes forget that part of my prayer.

Lord, forgive us for our arrogance. Hear our cries today for healings, provisions and needs but dear God, start the process in our hearts that we would desire You and your will above all things. Amen
