Beyond the Law

Description

How preoccupied with the rules are you? We are under the reign of the Spirit, and not the rules of the law.

How preoccupied with the rules are you? Many Christians live their life by a bunch of do's and don'ts. In a sense their lives are lived through pure will-power and not God's power. Part of the reason they do this is because they don't have confidence in the enabling of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Yet Paul the Apostle had tremendous confidence in the person of the Holy Spirit. He had such confidence that the Holy Spirit would be effective in his work that he said our concern should not be with the Old Testament law.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law (Galatians 5:18).

The law was an entire system of living and it was spiritual, just and good. But the Holy Spirit is deity and so there is no comparison between him and the law. The law is like a mirror, but the Holy Spirit is like soap. He is a person who can cleanse us and empower us; the law could never do that. We are under the reign of the Spirit, and not the rules of the law. That is why it is so important to know the Holy Spirit and what he does for us.
