Be Thou My Vision
I was listening to the Celtic hymn "Be Thou My Vision" and thought, “Yes, this is the way to find the job God that has prepared for me!” So, let me share my thoughts with you:
The Practical Process of a Career Search
On one hand, it helps to walk in the 6-step process of:
- Reaching forward with a positive Attitude.
- Discovering your strengths and being clear about your Aptitude.
- Adding Attitude + Aptitude to obtain your career Altitude so you can target opportunities.
- Searching by seeking to serve others who most need what you do best.
- Sorting through opportunities by wowing interviewers.
- Selecting work prepared for you.
Targeting opportunities in Step 3 (Altitude) seems to be the most difficult step. You must work through the practical process of your career search through researching, thinking about, and praying over the 6 targeting factors.
Find a Career You Cannot See
On the other hand, somehow and in some way you need to connect with your Heavenly Father about His vision for you. When I heard “Be Thou My Vision” this morning, I thought of you, as well as me, receiving what God is already giving. Listen for yourself. And read the words of the song:
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight; Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight; Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower: Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
I don’t know about you, but when I hear this song, this prayer, and this promise, I think God not only is my vision but also my wisdom and my strength.
