Be Still

What do you need to do to allow your heart to be still and know that He is God?

"Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!" Psalm 46:10, AMP

In the midst of life's busyness, perhaps it's a good time to: be still.

While there may be some things you can't or shouldn't take off your checklist—what things can you remove? What would give you more margin? What would be your "less is more"? What would allow your heart to be still and know that He is God?

I am looking for ways to simplify my life, to free up heart-hard drive space, to be still and know, to recognize and understand that He is God.

Here are a couple of simple measures I have taken at different times. Perhaps one of these will click with you or spur you on in ways to simplify your life.

Create a Space. I recently redecorated a room in our house to be a bit of a sanctuary/office for the Lord and me. I uncluttered the room, removed and rearranged some furniture and picked colors that are calming, peaceful and inviting. I added a few lamps and candles and now every time I enter this room I feel a sense of peace and calm. It's my prayer closet, a quiet place and my home office.

Detox or Fast. Some of us don't have the best or healthiest eating habits, while others are extremely disciplined in what they put in their bodies. Detoxing is a good way to cleanse the body and mind. In addition, a strategic fast is a great way to quiet our minds and bodies so that we can hear the Lord's still small voice in our spirit. Over the past few years, we've heard more and more stories of Christians who have adopted various 1-day, 3-day, 21-day or 40-day fasts to cleanse their bodies and to set aside some time to seek the Lord.

How about you? Does the idea of being still and knowing Him bring joy to your soul? May you make whatever heart or habit changes are necessary to do just that.

Say It: "Father, today (and for the rest of my life) help me make whatever adjustments I need to make to 'be still and know You are God.' In Jesus' Name. Amen."
