Be still and know that I am God.
The next two weeks are crazy busy for me. I could list for you everything that I need to do, but it probably looks very similar to your calendar or your list of things to do. This morning as I was drinking out of my coffee mug, I saw this verse on the mug, “Be still and know that I am God.” My first thought was that it would be nice to have the TIME to sit still and ponder on God, but who has the time for that? I don’t.
The verse has stuck with me all day. “Be still and know that I am God.” Why do I need to be still to know who God is? I can focus on God while I am running around doing everything on my list. Right?
I can pray continuously throughout my day, always inviting Christ to be in my life, but to be still, I believe we need to stop and make a conscious effort of being still. If I don’t choose to be still before the Lord, can I really hear him through all the noise that is going on around me? Think about it, when your child is watching TV. and you want to tell them something important, what do you do? You go in and turn off the T.V., so you know they are listening to you.
The same concept is true with us, I need to get alone with God, and be still before him. I need to take my schedule to him and lay it down, I need to take my cares and burdens to him and lay them down. I need to get in a quiet place and think on God, mainly because most of the time my thoughts are usually about me: my day, my problems, my children, my husband, etc. It takes time and energy to focus on God and not myself. I need to remind myself daily just who God is. I need to remind myself of his Sovereignty and holiness—two concepts that need a little more quiet and alone time to process.
We serve a mighty, righteous, Holy God that invites us to spend alone time with him. What a privilege! He tells us that if we will be still, we will KNOW him. I don’t know about you, but I’m all in.
