“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name…
Every day I’ve said this prayer and every day I’ve gotten it wrong.
I’ve said, “Our Father in heaven, holy is Your name.” I’ve said IS and not BE. There is a difference.
You might be thinking, “What’s the difference and why does it even matter?”
I said “is” because I know He is holy, but I didn’t say “be holy” because I didn’t know He is holy in His very being.
The difference is choice.
When I say “holy be” then where is the holiness to be? Either His name is holy or it is not in me. His name is only a name until we choose to know Him and in the knowing the name becomes holy.
The difference between is and be is personal. We will never know Him as Peace, Healer, Savior, Redeemer, Shepard, Keeper, Counselor, Creator, Almighty God, and so much more until we choose to let Him in – until we choose to let Him be in our lives. Then and only then does His name become holy.
The difference is important because the experience is life changing.
Open wide the doors of your heart and let Him in. You will see Him and know Him as His Holiness. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, Who was, and is and is to come.”
He is watching. He is waiting. He is holy.
In the secret place He whispers: “Be holy, because I am holy.” The Holy One pours holiness into our soul. When we choose to make Him holy in our life then we become holy in the nearness of Him.
You will be holy because He has chosen you to be holy.
Holiness is not in the doing – it is the being. It is intimate. It is personal. It is real.
You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy and I have set you apart…to be My own. (Leviticus 20:26)
