Be Faithful

When you share your faith, learn more about your blessings, and love and comfort God's people, you are faithful.

“The spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22,23).

In Yellowstone National Park, you’ll find Old Faithful. This famous geyser erupts, well, faithfully. Each eruption has been tracked for so long that National Park Service employees can now predict—in a ten-minute window—when the next eruption will occur. Old Faithful got its name simply because it regularly, consistently does what it was made to do.

Philemon (pronounced fi-LEE-man) was God’s Old Faithful. When Paul wrote him a letter he said, “I always thank my God when I mention you in my prayers because I hear about your faithfulness to the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. As you share the faith you have in common with others, I pray that you may come to have a complete knowledge of every blessing we have in Christ. Your love for God’s people gives me a lot of joy and encouragement. You, brother, have comforted God’s people” (Philemon 1:4-7).

This is what faithfulness looks like: sharing your faith, learning more about your blessings, loving and comforting God’s people.

As you study your Bible, you gain a complete knowledge of every blessing Christ gives you. Then you ask others if they know about Jesus, you encourage the people around you, and you comfort them when they are sad simply because it’s what you were made to do. You overflow—you erupt—with the fruit of the Spirit. People can predict it simply because that’s what you do.

And the people around you always thank God for you, because they hear about—and see—your faithfulness to the Lord Jesus. The best part? There’s a reward at the end: “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).
