Be an Ambassador for God
“Lord, the Lord Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.” Psalm 69:6 (tniv)
We are ambassadors for God. He knows we’re sinful and we’re not perfect, but we’re still here to represent Him to others. If you’re upset with your spouse, you try to be considerate of the kids and not hash things out in front of them. If you’re frustrated at work, think professionally and present your concerns to your boss logically and calmly rather than in a rash tirade. If you’re annoyed with a family member, don’t insult him in front of your entire clan.
It’s the same with how we represent Jesus. We try to be thoughtful of those who don’t know Him. We don’t want to be the ones to give them a bad impression of Jesus. No matter how tired or upset we are, we need to be mindful of nonbelievers, in the same way we’d be considerate of our kids, our boss, our family.
Think of your relationships with nonbelievers in your life. Are you being a good witness of Jesus’ love, patience, kindness, sensitivity? Or are you giving them a wrong impression of what a follower of Jesus ought to be? Nonbelievers tend to lump all “Christians” together, so how are you breaking a stereotype or showing that not all believers are hypocrites?
FAITH STEP: Pray for Jesus to help you to be more considerate of the people He’s trying to reach. Ask Him to give you His love for them, and pray for the patience (gulp!) and self-control you need to serve Jesus when you’re with those people.
