Psalm 112:1, 6-8 (NIV®)
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands . . . Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
There are so many promises in this passage: We will be blessed if we fear the Lord and want to do what He says. This isn’t fear of an angry father, but the respect we show toward a Father who loves us and wants the best for us. We will never be shaken. We can know a place of security and stability even as the world around us shakes and trembles. We will be remembered forever. The things we do to fulfill God’s purposes in the earth will have meaning and impact beyond our days under the sun. We don’t have to fear bad news. Bad news will certainly come, but it doesn’t have to elicit a response of fear because we are trusting in God’s plan. And finally, we will see with our own eyes the triumph God brings over our foes, our adversaries, those who oppose God’s purposes. This is a marvelous passage for reflection. If you are in the habit of memorizing or meditating on Scripture, I would commend it to you. It will give you strength and reassurance when your world is shaking.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Word. I pray this Scripture over my own life. I am blessed because of my fear of the Lord. Surely I will never be shaken and will be remembered because of my righteousness. I will have no fear; my heart is steadfast, trusting in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
