Are You too Jealous?
Description
In the busy world we live in, and in the politically correct culture of the Western world, it’s very possible to be completely unaware of the ‘reason for the season’ and to miss out on the Advent message that the King is coming. In Luke’s gospel the angels announce to the shepherds that there is good news on the way, and that it is good news for everyone. The baby born in Bethlehem is to be the savior, Jesus, Light of the World. Here is one reason why people miss that great news today. Be sure you don’t do the same!
Read Matthew 2.1-7 and 16
King Herod initially seems interested in the story the wise men from the East tell him, but pretty soon we see his evil intent. His problem was jealousy. Talk of a King being born cramped Herod’s style; he was the King officially recognized by the occupying Roman forces, and in his mind the birth of another King bred fear and jealousy which forced him to issue a death warrant on a generation of young baby boys.
It’s truly stunning what the evil human mind can plot out of jealousy, fear and anger. There are people in this world today who still plot death for the followers of Jesus, and who will do anything in a vain attempt to destroy Jesus and all he stands for.
But there are also many ordinary men and women, who miss out on the wonderful gift of salvation and never take there place in the family of God because they are too afraid to surrender to the lordship of Jesus, and who want to remain king of their own lives.
Don’t let your self-centredness and fear get the better of you during this advent and Christmas season as you truly bow down and worship the King of Kings and willingly give yourself to Him.
