Are You Thirsty?

Once you get a taste of God's goodness, love and mercy, you will begin to want more and more. Before you know it, you will be thirsting only for Him.

Psalm 42:1

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.

We thirst for many things in life. We thirst for a nice house, a loving marriage, a close family, financial security, satisfaction in our work and significance amongst our peers…but do we thirst for God?  Is God on our minds throughout our day? When we run into trouble, is God the first we think of to run to? When our children are driving us to the point of insanity, do we cry out to God, or do we cry out for our husband to get home quickly?

The psalmist said his soul panted for God the way a deer searches for water. What an incredible devotion to God. The psalmist must have learned that only God would be able to quench his thirst.  Anything other than God would only be a tease and would never fully satisfy. But God satisfies all of our needs.  You may not be in a place where you are thirsty for God all the time, but don’t let that stop you from beginning that search towards God.  God is ready for you to reach out to Him, to cry out to Him and ask Him to fill your every need.  Once you get a taste of His goodness, His love, His mercy, you will begin to want more and more.  Before you know it, you will be thirsting only for Him.

I admit, I do not always think of You first- yet You still love me.  Sometimes You are the last one I cry out to and usually it is out of sheer desperation…yet You still wait for me! Your love is never ending.  Your grace is overwhelming.  God, I want to begin to look to You always, and I want You to be my source of fulfillment.  Create a deep desire in me to lean on You always.
