Are You Sure? Would You Bet Your Life on It?

Teachers are held to a high standard. If you're a teacher, make sure you've done your research before you speak up about the Word of God.

"Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.”  James 3:1

Are you opinionated? In your casual conversations do you take liberty to use God's word to support your argument? Your opinions matter more than you realize. It's not hard to gain an audience for your writings these days: Facebook, mass emails, you can self-publish, even my blog is an example.

But- in James, we learn that teachers are held to a higher standard. You will be judged more strictly. Your listeners assume you have “done the homework” for them and take you at your word. People may even interpret what you say as coming directly from God.  So - the next time you don’t agree with the way something is said or done - give yourself pause and ask, “am I certain that God sees this the way I see it? Have I done my homework on this subject, before I put my two-cents in?”

This is precisely what makes discipleship so important. It's why Paul made a point to return on his missionary journeys and correct the churches - when they would get off track. Does this burden weigh heavily on your shoulders? If it doesn’t - it should.

It matters more than we realize.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me see past my own pride.  I repent for thinking my way is the only right way.  Help me to rely on you and the wisdom I have gained from your word. Thank you for the faithful teachers that have poured into me.  May I strive to be well trained in the scriptures; able to correctly handle your word of Truth.  I cannot do it without you, LORD.  Thank you for being my companion along this journey.  Amen
