Are You Rabble?

Are you rabble, or are you prepared to give up everything, and follow God into the Promised Land?

I just found this in my quiet time and it struck me so I wanted to share it. It’s about the Children of Israel.

The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!” Numbers 11:4-6

I love leadership. I’ve been reading a lot about it on my break and I know that God has blessed me with an ability to lead people where they may not have the courage to go by themselves. That will be my charge this fall. I will lead us into our next phase as a church and I’m psyched about where God will take us. And I will lead you, because it’s what God called me to do. And we will fly higher than we ever imagined. Trust me, I’ve seen it here before.

But you “rabble,” I’m not going to tolerate you. Consider this your warning. Go away.

“Rabble” is from the same word as “rabies.” It’s a spreadable, contemptible disease.

One of the lessons of leadership is that there will always be rabble. Because some people like slavery. Some people would rather make bricks all day for the “man,” and get some free fish (melons, leeks, onions, garlic…doesn’t it sound like a special from Francesca’s?). Some people would rather not take chances and just live in their own little comfortable world – their world that sucks – than maybe give up a little Omega 3 and follow God into the Promised Land.

It’s amazing how easy it is to look back and think that life without God was good back in the good old days. Do these “rabble” remember that they were SLAVES? That they built pyramids for a lunatic ruler who thought he was a god? Nope, all they remember are the root vegetables.

Come on! Are you rabble? Ask yourself this question today. “Dude, are you rabble? – or are you ready to follow God into the Promised Land?”
