Are You Frustrated But Not Sure Why?

Description

When we live an EGO-driven life, we edge God out and replace the Lover and Sustainer of our lives with frustration-producing idols.

Ever feel like your life is heavy or loaded down?

Ever feel like you’re not quite sure who you are or what you’re meant to do?

Ever feel like the way you approach God is even heavy and burdensome?

The reason for this mysterious heaviness we can’t quite seem to be able to put our fingers on is EGO. EGO means Edging God Out. And when we live an EGO-driven life, we edge God out and replace the Lover and Sustainer of our lives with frustration-producing idols.

I know. You’re saying, “Pastor Derwin, I don’t worship idols made of stone or wood! I’m not a primitive person in some jungle.”

I get it. Seriously, I do. But the idols I’m talking about aren’t made of stone or wood. The ones I’m talking about are idols that give you your identity or a sense of significance, worth, and purpose, like your job, the neighborhood you live in, the cars you own, your children, your spouse, your boyfriend/girlfriend, the clothes you wear, and the hurtful things you hang onto like a pit bull.

These are the idols that I’m talking about. These are false-identity-making idols.

And you know what? Our spouses, jobs, clothes, homes, and cars are not bad things … until we remove and replace God from the throne of our lives with them and they become our false-identity-manufacturing gods.

What are some of your idols? Take a sticky note, and write them down. Then burn it! And pray Romans 12:1-2.
