Are You Afraid of God?
Imagine we’re in the Garden of Eden ... just after the fall. The woman and the man just disobeyed God, just sinned against Him. They ate of the forbidden fruit. Communion with God is broken. This sin, the very first, brought separation, division, and -- have you ever thought of this? -- fear. The first time fear is mentioned in the Bible is at this moment ... after the fall.
“So he said, ‘I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.’” (Genesis 3:10)
Why was Adam afraid? His sudden awareness of his nakedness and his disobedience caused fear to rise up. Worse, this led him to hide from his God. To hide from the One Who created him, loved him, and took care of him. From the One he communed and spoke with every day!
When we’re afraid of God, we flee from His presence. Yet, it’s in His presence that we receive the forgiveness, grace, and strength to keep going forward and face whatever is before us!
Perhaps guilt is keeping you from approaching your Father, and yet, He’s waiting for you with open arms, like the prodigal son’s father (see the Bible, Luke 15:11-24). He is waiting for you on the doorstep of your heart. Open the door to Him...let Him in. Let Him restore your soul, your spirit, and your life.
God loves you, and if you need forgiveness and ask Him for it, He will forgive you. Today, if you feel this sweet call from the Lord, then answer Him. Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart and spirit. Would you like to do so? If so, then pray …“Lord, sometimes I’m afraid of coming into Your presence and speaking to You because I feel guilty, insignificant ... I humbly ask You to show me, by Your Holy Spirit, what is preventing me from confidently approaching You. Reveal it to me now and help me to get rid of all of it! In Jesus’s name, amen.”
