'Are' to 'Were'

When we accept who Jesus is and what He has done for our lives, we move from an “are” to a “were.”

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

One of the things we all love to do is to pick apart the lives of celebrities. We look at their ‘dirty laundry’ and convince ourselves that ‘we would never do that’. But the reality is that we all have things in our lives that don’t match up with God’s will. We all have secrets. We’ve all messed up. And the truth is that we all need the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Today’s verse talks about what some of the original Corinthians were. They were liars, thieves, slanderers, and swindlers. But something happened to change that. They were washed by the blood of Jesus.

When we accept who Jesus is and what He has done for our lives, we move from an “are” to a “were” as well. Have you experienced the cleansing grace of Jesus Christ? Have you moved from an are to a were?

Thank God for His saving grace in your life. Pray for the perspective you need to understand that grace and to extend it to those in your life.
