Faith has always been a part of my life. I grew up reading the Bible and praying before meals and before going to sleep at night. Those things have always been there.
To be quite honest, I’ve found that for me, my faith is a matter of needing to rely on God just to make it through life.
When I was in college there was a time when I was going through a lot. My stepfather died during my senior year of high school. My mom was struggling, too, because I had gone to college and she was alone. I struggled, wondering if I should stay in college or drop out and get a job to help my family. My biological father encouraged me to pray about what I should do.
God answered those prayers very directly
I felt as if God answered those prayers very directly. I’ve never had that happen in the same way since then, but at that point I knew no matter how tough things get, I would remember that God is always present in my life.
What I’ve found is that if I put God first, and then family, and then friends, things usually end up working out. When I’ve gotten off that path, things haven’t usually worked out the way that I want my life to go.
I’m still not finished, I make lots of mistakes, but I’ve still got that small “voice” – that voice is God–helping me along the way.
Where I’m from, just graduating from high school is a big deal. To have a degree and travel the world (like I have) is so far out there from what people expect. The only answer I can give people for my success is God. When it comes to track I’m not that talented. I’m not the fastest, or the one with the best contract. I’m under no illusion that some of the blessings I’ve experienced have come only from my hard work, it all flows from God.
