An Uncommon Heart
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart… Matthew 15:18
The regularity of vulgarity in our culture is shocking. Expletives have become adjectives. To put it simply, vulgarity has become commonplace.
As Christ followers, we are called to be uncommon. We’re called to set the example for the world and to stand out. We are not supposed to conform to the commonality of this world. Instead we are to be in a constant state of change by the renewing of our minds, becoming more reflective of Christ daily in our thinking, acting, and speaking.
Vulgarity is more than a language issue; it’s a heart issue. What is your heart communicating to those around you?
Ask God to search your heart today, to help you see if there is anything that needs to be removed. Ask God for the strength to remove those things and make you more like Him.
Do an inventory on your vocabulary. Think about what you allow yourself to see, hear, and say. As you discover those things you know are vulgar, take action to remove them.
