An Unbelievable Privilege

We are a holy place. What makes us the holy place is the presence of the Spirit of God.

You are not an empty lot but a holy place. Two words for a Temple appear in the Greek New Testament, one refers to the entire edifice and court of the Temple, and the other refers to the inner sanctuary or holy place where God dwells. Paul told us that we are that holy place. What makes us the holy place is the presence of the Spirit of God.

Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise (1 Corinthians 3:16-18).

When we are told such things, we have to figure out what's really important in our lives. Is the most important thing to be impressive in this age or to achieve in this age, or is the most important thing to belong to God and to experience his presence through the Spirit? Paul has told us that belonging to God is the most important. In the Old Testament, the high priest could only be in the holy place once a year, but incredibly enough we are now that holy place. We should take that privilege very seriously.
