An Invisible Deadline

The plight of the unsaved is urgent; we know not when the Lord will return.

2 Peter 3:9-10 (NIV®)

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.

God’s desire is that every person would come to repentance, so we should care about that too. If we’re faithful servants of the Most High God, it will be important to us that people come to know God and Jesus as Lord. Sometimes if you listen to those of us who are Christians, it’s almost like we’re happy that people don’t know God because we want them to get what they deserve. God cares about people, and we have to care about people too. And we should feel an urgency about that, because the day of the Lord’s coming is unknown to us.

Heavenly Father, how patient You are with me and my generation! Your desire is for every one of us come to faith in You, so awaken in me that desire again and again. Thank You that You want to call each one of us Your beloved child. Help me to be a faithful witness to Your love and compassion in every avenue I walk today. May Your Kingdom increase, Lord! In the name of Jesus, the Savior of the world, amen.
