An Extraordinary Invitation
Luke 22:29-30 (NIV®)
“I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Do you imagine the disciples understood fully the implications of what Jesus was saying to them? No, they were struggling just to hang onto the moment. And I promise you they hadn’t understood when Jesus met them on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and said, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” But for three years they’ve watched Jesus, and along the way they’ve learned what it means to yield their lives to serve the purposes of God. Jesus is making the extraordinary statement that just as the Father has shared His Kingdom with Jesus, Jesus will share that Kingdom with His followers. Being a Christ-follower is an invitation to an extraordinary life that will be experienced during our days in the earth and for eternity.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of being known as a child of God, a Jesus-follower. Help me to live in a manner that is worthy of that name. I yield my life to Your purposes. Lord, I want to live the extraordinary life that You have for me during my days in the earth, and I look forward to eternity in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
