An Abundant Earth Through the Spirit
Football teams need great receivers. A quarterback can throw fabulous passes but without skilled receivers, all the talent in the world won't help the team. In a sense, God the Father is the coach, God the Son is the quarterback, and God the Holy Spirit is the receiver who carries the ball. In the Bible, it is God the Father who does the planning, God the Son carries out the plan, and God the Holy Spirit sustains the plan. God the Holy Spirit sustains the life of the church, but he also sustains the life of the Earth. Psalm 104 says:
You dost send forth your Spirit, they are created; And you renew the face of the ground. (Psalm 104:30)
So we have God, through the Holy Spirit, bringing life and renewal to creation. Just as in Genesis chapter, where the Holy Spirit was hovering over the face of the waters waiting on the Father and the Son to finish the six days of creation, so after Christ departed the earth, the church is placed into the safekeeping and care of the Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity has done things for us, but in this present time the Holy Spirit is the manifest presence of the Trinity on the Earth and in the church.
