AM Briefings

Who knows what battles await around blind corners? Let the Lord lead you into your day.

O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. (Psalm 5:3, ESV)

The soldier stood at attention as his commander continued to lambast him, his red face inches away from his own.

“Son! What on God’s green earth made you think that it was advisable to skip this morning’s strategy planning? Briefing should be done before you participate in any practice exercise. How could you take action before properly getting your instructions?”

“Sir, yes Sir! I’m not a morning person, Sir!”

Um, yeah, no. We read this and know it is ridiculous yet isn’t this what we do to our Commander and Chief? His Word speaks to us several times about coming before Him before we start our day; of seeking Him first.

I know I used to do my devotions only at night...mornings were too groggy and the snooze button too convenient. Funny thing though, the busier life got, the more convinced I became that apart from Him, I can do nothing. Now I know that in order to be an effective soldier in the Lord’s army, I need to sit and be with Him—if even for just a few minutes—every morning to wait for his touch and instructions. I would be foolhardy not to.

There are only 24 hours in a day, and if we’ve committed our lives to Christ and placed Him on the throne as Lord, then it really makes sense to actually let Him lead us into our day. After all, who knows what battles await around blind corners? Oh, yeah...He does.
