Always Walk Straight
In the New Testament, there are several different words for walk. One of the more common Greek words for walk means to walk around through this world and to live life. That is the word that occurs in Galatians 5:16. Paul the Apostle said that we should organize our life in this world or walk through this world by the Spirit. What he was saying is that the qualities, emotions, and perspective that come from the Spirit of God should be the organizing principles of our life.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law (Galatians 5:16-18).
We have a natural enemy within that resists the influence of the Spirit and that is our own flesh. It is the Spirit's job to stand against and resist the influence of the flesh. Our responsibility is to sustain a relationship with God the Father through prayer so as to permit the qualities and perspectives from the Spirit to become a part of our lives. Our responsibility is to organize our life around these spiritual qualities, and the Spirit's responsibility is to supply this new way of living.
