God wants you to know Him better! Are you living the Christian-life to its fullest?
"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better." Ephesians 1:17, NIV
Let me get to the bottom line of this Mustard Seed. You do know, don’t you, that I always have something specific in mind that I hope God will plant in your heart?
GOD WANTS YOU TO KNOW HIM BETTER!
That’s it! God wants you to get to know Him better! You see Paul knew that these Christians, most of them very young in their faith, would one day face the struggles and temptations of life. He knew that there would be days of trouble ahead. At this time, they were delighted with their Christian experience, but when trials came their way, they might not continue in their joy. Paul wanted them to grow in their knowledge of God, so that when storms came, they would be prepared to meet them.
Paul also wanted these Christians to live the Christian life to its fullest, experiencing all the joy he had experienced since his conversion. He knew that if these Christians were half-hearted in their devotion to God, they would only receive half the blessings of Christianity. He knew that the more they learned about God, the greater their love would be for God, and consequently, the greater would be their rewards from God, as their commitment to God grew stronger.
Can I ask you a serious question? Can you pause long enough to ponder the answer? How’s your commitment to God? How devoted are you to Him? I pray, like Paul prayed for the Ephesians, that God would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know Him better!
As you learn to know Him, He will become so much more real to you! You will love and serve Him more, and greater will be your rewards from Him! That is when the peace will surpass your understanding. That is when you will have joy beyond measure. That is when God will truly meet you at your point of need. That is when the Christian life will become real: when you give up all of yourself, and take on all of Christ.
I’m still striving to get to that place in my life. Are you?
