You must say the same thing that God says about your sin. And then, be forgiven.
Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.” HOSEA 14: 2
Only God has the power to forgive sin. He promises in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Confess means to call sin by the same name that God does. To agree with Him that your sin is not worry — it’s lack of faith. It’s not exaggeration — it’s lying. It’s not gossip — it’s slander. It’s not safe sex — it’s fornication or adultery.
When we switch the labels of sin to make it seem less serious, we’re being dishonest with ourselves and with God. It doesn’t matter if the sin is big or small. It doesn’t matter if it was committed long ago or recently. It doesn’t matter whether it was spontaneous or malicious. God will forgive you. But you must say the same thing about your sin that God says about it!
So come. Agree with Him. Confess honestly. Be forgiven today.
