Active Faith

Let’s recognize our blessings and commit ourselves to seeking God with everything we have.

Psalm 63:1 (NIV®)

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you.

“Seek” is a word that shows action. It means to search for or try to acquire. The psalmist is not sitting and waiting for God to come to Him—he is seeking Him with his body and soul. I’m afraid that American Christians have developed such a consumer mentality toward faith that instead of actively seeking God we are looking to be entertained in a comfortable setting. I’ve been to places in the world where people sit on the floor all day long to hear someone teach the Bible because they don’t have one of their own, or stand in line for hours to get an outline of the lesson because they have no material to study. Let’s recognize our blessings and commit ourselves to seeking God with everything we have.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the resources readily available to me. Give me a greater appreciation for the ease of practicing my faith. I ask that You pour rivers of blessing on my brothers and sisters around the world who worship You with whole hearts in spite of the obstacles they face. May their joy abound. In Jesus’ name, amen.
