“She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.” (Mark 5:27-29, ESV)
I remember during the years of homeschooling my children that Language Arts was one of my favorite subjects to teach. It was so amazing to watch them create sentences and complete thoughts giving me insights into their strange little imaginations.
What I didn’t like, however, was teaching grammar. I was one of those kids in school who would tune out and roll my eyes with each lesson...“Verbs: an action word; used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear...”
Whatever. Give me a blank piece of paper and let me at ‘er. (I’m thinking right about now that several readers are wishing I had paid more attention.) I did retain a bit of grammar definitions and rules, but not from a classroom; everything I recall came via Schoolhouse rock videos.
So what does this have to do with the story of the woman who was healed of her disease? Her story was full of verbs—of action.
And, she spoke. She spoke words of faith, expecting a full healing miracle. And she got it.
Action words make for good stories. There is movement and excitement. This is what walking in faith and with Jesus is all about. He expects us to be engaged in our journey. To be active in our life with Him. If your Christian life is boring...you’re doing it wrong.
Be a doer and not just a hearer. Reach out to touch Him. Open up his love letter to you (The Bible), talk to him (all the time—he doesn’t tire of hearing from you) be his hands and feet and find ways to minister to others. He doesn’t disappoint and once you’re all-in he will lead you in a life full of faith defining feats!
