A Worldwide Epidemic

The identifying of this most basic human condition is not popular, for being called "sinners" hits right at our pride.

There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:22-24)

Imagine the headlines if a killer disease were to sweep across the continents, devastating nations and decimating populations. Imagine how TV companies and journalists would all be out there, trying to catch the latest breaking news. Such an event would certainly grab the top spot in all the headlines.

But actually, such a killer disease is at work in the world, and has been so for centuries. But because it does its work silently and surreptitiously, no one hardly notices it is there, though its symptoms and signs are around for all to see. It is what we might call these days a genetic disease, for it goes right back to the first parents of the human race who have passed it on to every one of their descendants ever since. It is the disease is that the Bible calls "sin."

Like any diagnosis of a serious illness, the identifying of this most basic human condition is not popular, for being called "sinners" hits right at our pride. Yet it is only when we recognize that our most fundamental problem is sin that we can begin to see a way out. For, the good news is - there is a cure! (Imagine the headlines now: "Miracle cure discovered – world saved!"). God Himself has provided a cure for this condition, just as He promised on the very day that Adam and Eve first sinned. The cure is his own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; the dosage is to believe what He did for us when He died on the cross in our place and dealt with our condition once and for all.

No matter how you may feel you have failed God, no matter how bad you have been, the epidemic of sin in your life has been dealt with by Jesus. All you need to do is to reach out to Him once again and enjoy the relief of being cured!

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
