A Valuable Commodity

Proverbs 23:23 (NIV®)

Buy the truth and do not sell it.

We live in an age where truthfulness is on the decline. In almost every aspect of our lives, from personal relationships to business to politics to religion, there is a vocabulary to describe avoiding the truth: we tell a little white lie, spin the news, craft a message, and accept all viewpoints. However, Scripture says that there is truth; and if we really are Jesus-followers, we will know the truth, and it will set us free (John 8:31-32). The only way to grow in the Lord is to ask God to show us the truth, open our hearts to the truth, face the truth, and cooperate with the truth. Truth is a valuable commodity that will change your life. Secure the truth; and when you get it, use everything you have to protect it. Practice it, cultivate it, and never let it go.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You are true in all Your ways—all-knowing and unchanging. In a world where truth isn’t held in high esteem, give me a hunger and thirst for the truth in my life. May I always speak Your truth, Lord, and bring honor to You. In Jesus’ name I thank You, amen.
