A Servant’s Heart

Description

Children can understand the concept of sacrificial love when they have witnessed it throughout their lives in their mom.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Romans 12: 11

So many times in a mom’s world, we lose our zeal. The world of a mom can be mundane—cooking, cleaning, car pooling, breaking up fights between siblings, teaching children right from wrong—day after day, over and over again. It is easy to lose your zeal for life and even more so with spiritual matters.

What is spiritual about making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? What has eternal value in changing 100 diapers a week? Is there any significance in bath time? Standing alone, these things do not have a huge amount of value, but put all of the duties of a mom together and multiply it over a child’s life and there is SO much value.

You are exhibiting unconditional love for your child. Serving, though you know you will not be served in return. Giving, when you may or may not hear any “thank you's". Loving, when you realize that your child is only capable at this point in his life to take and not give back. The spiritual win is, you are being the hands and feet of Christ and showing your children, in a physical way, how God loves them.

Moms have the potential to set their child up for success in that it is not a big jump to believe that God loves them, because they already feel loved by their mom. A child can understand the concept of sacrificial love when they have witnessed it throughout their life with their mom.

Don’t forget, you are serving the Lord. Keep your spiritual fervor. God is always watching and God will reward you for all of your labor.

Prayer

Father, remind me always that I am serving You and my job is to glorify You in all that I do. Father, when my zeal is lacking, when I am tired and weary, wrap Your loving arms around me and whisper in my ear that You will provide me with what I need, when I need it. Thank you God, for taking care of me!
