A Healthy Immune System
Deuteronomy 10:12-13 (NIV®)
What does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Respect and reverence for God are unmistakable characteristics of the people of God. When I look at the American church today, it seems we need an infusion of a sense of awe with regard to Him. The fear of the Lord functions as our spiritual immune system, keeping us from all kinds of trouble. Scripture is written to help us fear God, to know how to relate to Him, how to please Him, so that we can live in such a way that His blessings come upon us in both time and eternity. The Bible is a book of tremendous hope, and it shows us the benefits of giving Him the respect and reverence He deserves.
Heavenly Father, forgive me for any place I’ve held a lack of respect for You. Open my heart to Your Word and show me new ways to know Your character better so that I can receive Your blessings.
