A Daily Pick-Me-Up
"A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22, AMP
Dragging today? Need a little pick-me-up?
The quickest way to enjoy a pick-me-up is simple: laugh! C’mon, get happy! Many years ago, God told us about the power of a happy heart and a cheerful mind through the writer of Proverbs.
When we choose gladness, joy, laughter and rejoicing––it works like medicine and healing in our lives. When we laugh, our eyes light up, we feel happy and stress seems to roll off us like water off a duck's back. The benefit of laughter as it relates to elevating our serotonin and endorphin levels are becoming common knowledge. God knows how good a happy heart is for our enjoyment and health. There’s something about using our faith and choosing to have a good laugh or a giggle. There's nothing like a "stop it hurts" belly-laugh! Life is a lot different when you look at the hysterical and hilarious nuances in daily life, and God has given us plenty of fodder to fuel laughter!
On the other hand, when we are broken or afflicted in our spirit––we end up feeling like our strength is sapped, being bone-tired and hurting all over. It's no fun at all! Don't allow yourself to stay down or broken, instead ask the Lord to fill you with His joy!
Today, if you need a jolt of glad—take time to look for the funny things in your life. Look for the outrageous and laugh. Pay attention to ways God might want you to lighten up and choose to chuckle. Don't take yourself too seriously. Make a conscious decision to focus on the laughter-side-of-life and just see how happy and healthy you feel!
“If you are cheerful, you feel good; if you are sad, you hurt all over.” (Proverbs 17:22, Contemporary English Version)
Say It: “Father, I am so thankful You have given me the secret to a happy, healthy life! I get to laugh. Lord, if I start to get too serious about things—help me do a 180 where I choose faith, laughter and joy! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
