Magazines are covered with seemingly “perfect” women giving us their tips and tricks on how to accomplish their flawless look. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter give us front-row access into the lives of celebrity female “perfection.”

We see. We want. We try. We fail. We feel depressed.

As Christian girls, we don’t have to stick to the culture’s shallow standards for beauty.

I understand the struggle of wanting to be beautiful and wanting to measure up. I see these “perfect” women and feel down and discouraged over my own imperfections. My physical beauty no longer feels like a gift from God. The reflection in the mirror reminds me of how short I’ve fallen on the “perfect body” measuring stick.

Thankfully we don’t have to use that measuring stick. As Christian girls, we don’t have to stick to the culture’s shallow standards for beauty. We don’t have to find our confidence and worth by attaining the “perfect body.” We live under Christ’s truth and His reality. He is the creator of beauty, and He is the only one who can define it.

Imagine how different each of our lives would look if we took God’s Word to heart and embraced the Bible’s teachings on beauty. Think about how it could change things if we daily reminded ourselves of these freeing truths.

If you want to find freedom from the culture’s always changing standards for outward beauty, take these Bible verses to heart. Don’t glaze over these verses with a “been-there-heard-that” attitude. These verses are powerful and can truly change your life.

Three Verses on Beauty Every Girl Needs to Know

1. “For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7).

This verse brings such great encouragement to my heart. God doesn’t need the prettiest, strongest, or most beautiful. He looks at the heart. The next time you are feeling worthless, stop and remember this verse.

2. “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised” (Prov. 31:30).

Outward beauty is passing. It won’t last. It can’t. Instead of stressing over the fact that we don’t look like the girl on the magazine cover, let’s focus on the qualities that make us who we are as a person. God says that a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Let’s make sure that we are more concerned about fearing the Lord than getting the likes and approvals of those around us.

3. “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well” (Ps. 139:13–14).

Although this verse may be very familiar to many of you, it still packs a punch if we let it. This verse is saying that you were intentionally designed and formed as a baby in your mother’s womb. You were fearfully and wonderfully made. You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. God created you, and He says His works are wonderful. You are His wonderful creation. Never doubt that truth.

Make Yourself Remember

The next time you begin to feel worthless, ugly, or like you don’t measure up, stop and remember God’s truth. Keep these verses at the front of your mind, and recite them anytime you begin to doubt your worth.

God doesn’t need the prettiest, strongest, or most beautiful. He looks at the heart.

God’s Word is powerful and has the power to give us the confidence and assurance we need. Keep your mind focused on Christ, and He will give you the strength to reject lies and embrace His truths.
