2 Timothy 2
Paul encourages his younger associate Timothy to engage in a ministry of reproducing the life of Christ in others and of equipping them to do the same. He uses the metaphors of a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer to convey the need for diligence in discipleship (2:1-13). He admonishes Timothy to be strong in the word of truth and to avoid godless chatter, youthful lusts, and fruitless quarrels (2:14-26).
Those who wish to be active and effective in the Lord’s service should call on the Lord out of a pure heart. If we pray for the eyes to see what God is doing in our lives, we will realize we have more ministry opportunities than we thought.
READING of 2 TIMOTHY 2
Lord, I want to be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. By Your grace and power, I want to participate in Your eternal plan. Open my eyes to the opportunities You give me to love and serve others with eternal values at heart.
