1 Timothy 6

Description

A tour of 1 Timothy 6 with Ken Boa.

After a word concerning those who are slaves (6:1-2), Paul condemns the false teaching that godliness is a means to financial gain, affirming instead that contentment is more valuable than material abundance (6:3-10). He concludes this epistle with a charge to Timothy to endure in the good fight of the faith (6:11-16) and a final word about those who are rich in this present world (6:17-21).

The Pastoral Epistles were Paul’s only recorded letters to individuals (his letter to Philemon was addressed to several people). As the last of Paul’s letters in Scripture, 1 Timothy and Titus were written after his first imprisonment, and 2 Timothy was written during his second imprisonment near the end of his life.

Prayer:

Lord, You are the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To You be honor and eternal dominion!
