1 Timothy 5

Description

A tour of 1 Timothy 5 with Ken Boa.

Paul’s two letters to Timothy and his letter to Titus are collectively known as the Pastoral Epistles because they deal with issues of shepherding and oversight of local churches. In this chapter, Paul gives his associate Timothy specific instructions on how the church should provide for widows and for the elders who direct the affairs of the church (5:1-25).

First Timothy presents Christ Jesus as the one mediator between God and humanity who gave Himself as a ransom for all (2:5-6). Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and He is “the Savior of all men, especially of believers” (1:15; 4:10). It is in Him that strength, mercy, faith, love, salvation, hope, godliness, and contentment (1:12-14; 2:3-6; 4:10; 6:6) are to be found.
