1 Thessalonians 5
Paul continues with a discourse on the future day of the Lord and exhorts the Thessalonians to be alert and self-controlled as children of the light whose destiny is to live together with Christ (5:1-11). The epistle ends with specific admonitions and instructions that relate to their sanctification (5:12-22) and with a benediction and parting thoughts (5:23-28).
Both of Paul’s Thessalonian epistles deal with matters of eschatology (prophecy), and all five chapters of First Thessalonians refer to the return of Christ (1:10; 2:19; 3:13; 4:13-18; 5:1-11, 23). The prophetic material in 4:13-5:11 is very vivid and practical, and this is one of the most important biblical passages concerning the coming of Christ.
