The Heart of the Matter

Andrea Polnaszek

Description

When our heart is in it there is passion and emotional energy behind the actions.

Bible Love Leading: “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)

God’s Love Leading: Do you ever feel like nobody “gets you?” Do you feel like you walk around going to school, doing your job and being with your family but you are virtually invisible? Life is often so full of competing activities and pressure that we walk through it in a fog. We just try to keep up. We only scratch the surface of our understanding of God, others and ourselves.

“The Heart of the Matter” is an expression that means to get to the core or the root of something. The heart of an issue is the core or the bottom line.  It's the way the entire thing is wrapped up. Way back in the time of Moses he summed up God’s way like this. He said that the heart of the matter is to love God with your entire being. He instructed God followers to love God with every part of themselves -- their heart, soul and strength.

Deuteronomy 6:5 is often quoted but not truly understood. Today spend a little time thinking about what you put your heart, soul and strength into? When your heart is in something people see it. That’s why you may hear expressions like: “that was half-hearted.” When our heart is in it there is passion and emotional energy behind the actions. Meditate on what you are truly passionate about. When do you smile doing something? Your soul is the invisible parts of you. The part of you that is hidden unless you share it. Your soul is the part that holds your emotional energy -- whether anxious or peaceful.

Meditate on when you feel most at peace, what are you doing or thinking about when that feeling comes over you. Finally your strength is what you put your energy into. This is what you spend time and put your weight behind. It is the tasks that you are willing to push forward even when it isn’t easy. Meditate on what you put your strength into? What do you spend your time doing?

My Love Leading: Choose one way that you will put your heart, soul or strength into loving God today!

Dear Lord,

Please search my heart and cut through all of my defenses to speak.  May my heart and mind be open to you.  May I put my strength into serving you today.   I want to love you with my heart, soul and strength.

Amen
