Understand Your Feelings

Shana Schutte

Description

When you hold on to your faith in God’s truth and character, you will do a better job of not giving your feelings the freedom to control your life.

Understanding your feelings is an important step toward gaining control over them. One critical thing to keep in mind is that there is a difference between faith and feelings. Feelings change with the tide: circumstances can make you angry or happy, and those feelings can influence your decisions. Faith, on the other hand, is steadfast; it doesn’t come and go, nor does it change on a dime.

If you want to learn how to control your emotions, you can start by understanding the difference between faith and feelings, as today’s post explains.

"Faith vs. Feelings" by Shana Schutte

Pray
God, help me to understand the difference between my feelings and my faith, between my spirit and my flesh. Show me how to govern my feelings and put them under control of the Holy Spirit.

Reflect
Do I follow my spirit, or do I follow my emotions?

Respond
When you are tempted to let your emotions take control, read 2 Corinthians 5:7. Study what it means to walk by faith rather than by sight.

When we hold on to our faith in God’s truth and character, we will do a better job of not giving our feelings the freedom to control our lives. Another important aspect of emotional control is learning how to gauge the health of our feelings by measuring the condition of our hearts. A heart that longs for things that are not of God is a heart that’s focused on the world, and therefore is prone to emotional upheaval. In the next post, find out how to keep your heart healthy as you strive to manage your emotions.
