Make Sure You Are Spiritually Alive

Description

Do you want to conquer the giants in your life? The first step is to make sure you're spiritually alive.

A journey of walking victoriously with Jesus starts with making Him your Shepherd. Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice…and they follow me” (John 10:27). We need to make sure we really have Jesus in our lives before we move any further today. Are you one of His sheep? If not, why not decide to follow Jesus right here, right now, today?

In following Jesus, we realize we fall short of the glory of God. God is perfect, and he can’t have anything to do with sin, so we are initially separated from God. Spiritual death overtakes us. But the good news is that Jesus Christ came to earth. He was born as a baby in Bethlehem. He lived on earth for thirty-three years. He was crucified. He definitely died. He was buried in a borrowed tomb. And then Jesus was definitely raised to life again, all so we can have life. God loves the world so much that he gave his only Son to us. Whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have abundant and eternal life (John 3:16).

“What must I do to be saved?” the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas (Acts 16:30). It’s a great question, one people are still asking today. The simple answer follows in Scripture: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved,” Paul said to him (v.  31). It’s that straightforward. Yet this kind of belief is more than simply mentally ascribing to something as true. It’s putting all your trust in Jesus to be all he says he can be in your life.

Do we want giants to fall in our lives? Putting our trust in him as Savior and Lord is the first step in having a relationship with a living, communicating, resurrected Jesus who loves us and cares for us and is intimately involved in our lives. That’s how we start to depend on Jesus. That’s how the giants go down. We make sure we’re spiritually alive. We return to the gospel and rally around the cross. We recognize that God is pursuing us with relentless passion. He’s fully expressing to us his unfathomable love through the mercy and grace and forgiveness of the cross of his Son, Jesus Christ. Our call is to respond to this and follow the person of Jesus.

Have you done that? If not, do it right now. Pray this prayer with me. “Lord Jesus, God Almighty, please save me from my sins. I know I fall short of your glory. But I don’t want there to be any distance between you and me anymore. I believe that you gave your life on the cross to pay for my sins. I believe that you rose in victory from the grave. Please forgive me for all my sin. Wash all the guilt and shame away. Jesus, make me alive in you. I receive you as my Savior and Lord, and I want to follow you all the days of my life. Thank you for finding me and saving me. I believe it. I receive it. Amen.”

You may have just decided to make Jesus your Shepherd or you have been following Him for years, but either way, there’s always a next step to take. Join us tomorrow to see what it looks like to take steps with your Shepherd day by day.
