Don't You Realize What You Have?

Switched Quote: “Don’t you realize what you have?”

Switched Scripture: “Take to heart all the words of warning I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of these instructions.”  (Deuteronomy 32:46).

Have you ever been frustrated because you had to go to church or youth group and you didn’t want to go? Have you ever had that moment when the thought passed through your mind that you “wished your parents wouldn’t make you.” I did! And actually even today sometimes I just don’t want to go to church or my small group. I would rather stay home and binge watch Netflix.

Your parents are trying to encourage you to be part of  Christian community. The Apostle Paul warned Jesus followers to not skip being together. There is power in the encouragement that comes from spending time with other Christ followers. Moses encouraged the Israelite parents to take heart following the instruction to love God first and to share that teaching with their children.

If you are frustrated with your parents and wish you had a different family, take a moment to identify three good things your Mom, Dad or caregiver do for you. If you are one of the readers who is thinking “I wish I had someone else’s family.” Take a few moments to identify an adult in your life who has shown you love, care and kindness and thank them.

Switched Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to focus on the things I have and not the things I don’t have. Remind me of a person who has been my champion and give me the courage to thank them for their love. Amen

Cyber Champion: Post about this person who has shown you kindness.
