Stop Trying to Control It All

Sometimes anxiety comes from wanting to control the present, or the future, or the outcome of some event. But if you stop trying to control everything in your life, you will find that your anxiety and stress levels will be lower. This is why Paul writes in the Book of Philippians to stop worrying and trust God. When you realize that you can’t control everything that happens, you can start to learn how to trust God more each day.

LP - When Anxiety Attacks

00:00

Read

Luke 12:22

Pray

Jesus, I acknowledge that I am not in control of my life. I have given You control, and therefore I will trust You instead of trying to maintain control on the uncontrollable.

Reflect

What is the source of my anxiety? Am I anxious because I’m trying to control my present, my future or the outcome of an event?

Respond

When you find yourself trying to control your life, stop and take a deep breath in. As you exhale, say, “God is in control.” This will help you remember that only God can control the outcome of a situation.

The Wrap Up

Letting go of control -- of the present, of the future, of outcomes of events -- helps to calm the stress and anxiety you may be feeling. Instead of trying to control everything, let God be in control of your life. The more you learn more about God’s character, the easier it will be to trust Him and let him be in control. The next post will help you do that.
